Abit (Armenian Bitumen)

Abit Armenian Bitumen is a joint Armenian-Russian company, which produces paving and building bitumen. It was founded in May 2009 and located near the town of Surenavan, Ararat region of Armenia. It was announced that a total of US$ 20mln had been invested, in which the total share of the Russian stockholders; Lavarden Ltd, Bonvarren Ltd and LL Bamo Ltd is 55% while the remaining 45% belongs to MIKA Limited corporation^[1].

Abit produces air-refined asphalt, paving and building bitumen; while the raw material – mazout – is being imported from Russia, Iran and Georgia^[2]. The general director of the plant is Nelly Voskanyan. According to Voskanyan, the plant annually needs 100,000 tons of atmospheric crude oil or 45,000 tons of oil tar. The plant will output some 43,000 tons of bitumen, 40,000 tons of heating oil and 6,000 tons of diesel distillate with 330-day annual operations.
