Děti Země (Children of the Earth - COE) is a Czech citizens association for environmental protection.
COE started up in September 1989, shortly before the Velvet revolution in Czechoslovakia, as an unofficial initiative of several ecological activists in Prague.
In the last two decades Dětí Země worked for ozone layer protection, sustainable transport[1], air quality[2] etc. Today there are eleven local branches or clubs in eleven cities all over the Czech Republic with the headquarters in Plzeň (Pilsen) in the western part of the country.
Members of Honorary board of COE are Jiří Dědeček, Erazim Kohák, Vladimír Merta, Zdeněk Thoma, Jaroslav Pavlíček a Jan Vodňanský. Ivan Dejmal exdisident (Charta 77) and first Czech minister of environment was longtime supporter of COE.
