- Polikarpov I-6
The Polikarpov I-6 was a
Soviet fighterprototype of the 1930s, designed byPolikarpov . It was a development of thePolikarpov I-3 with a lighter airframe. The result was a single-bay, unequal-span wooden biplane with fabric-skinned wings and amonocoque fuselage. I-6 made its first flight in March 1930, and two prototypes appeared in theMay Day fly-past overMoscow in the same year. Compared to thePolikarpov I-5 also under development at the time, the I-6 had a higher top speed but worse climb and turn performance. In addition, it was armed only with two machine guns while I-5 was expected to be armed with four (this did not pan out in practice). As the result, the project was discontinued.cite book|author=Shavrov V.B.|year=1985|title=Istoriia konstruktskii samoletov v SSSR do 1938 g.
