- Queen city rocker
A New Zealand film entitled "Queen City Rocker" was sold by Richard Lymposs a sixteen year old youth with no prior film or writing experience. "Queen City Rocker" was bought by Larry Parr a budding Auckland Film Producer and shot in 1985. Director Bruce Morrison, Starring Matthew Hunter and Mark Pallisi.
The origional story focused on the friendship between two mates named in actual warring gangs of that time in Auckland, the "Queen City", the AK Boot Boys and the Kingsland King Cobras "KKC". As in real life the scriptwriter, Lymposs, and a member of the KC's were friends.
The origional story made statement to the paradox of friendship, where both youths were technically enemies, caught in amongst the lower socio economic times thwart with violence, in a racialy charged enviroment. The Punk/Ska/Reggae music of the late 70's - early 80's was viberant and a relevant underswell in the Auckland music scene.
By the time "Queen City Rocker" was filmed the script had been softened for a potential commercial market and by the it was in the can the reference between real gangs had been lost and the two stars were buddies in the same "group", the term "gang" had become unpalatible.
