Ontario , Smith obtained his B.Sc. Queen's University , Smith spent three years pursuing post-doctoral research atColumbia University . Smith's main interests arealgebraic geometry andcomputational commutative algebra .Smith is an advocate of the
William Lowell Putnam Mathematical Competition which he wrote while completing his undergraduate degreeFact. In his first year doing so, he would also meet his future department colleague,Michael Andrew Roth .Greg Smith is highly praised for his clarity and thoroughness as a lecturer.
