Elvis Rock

The Elvis Rock is a rock alongside the A44 in Ceredigion, Wales. [http://www.bbc.co.uk/wales/mid/sites/history/pages/elvis_rock_photos.shtml?1] It is one of the most iconic pieces of graffiti in Wales, probably the most iconic in mid-Wales. This is mainly due to its placing on the main trunk road through the country, and the fact that the word “elvis” seems incredibly out of context compared to the area and landscape.

History

The graffiti on the rock allegedly originally read “Ellis” and was witten in support of a local Plaid Cymru candidate Islwyn Ffowc Elis. [http://www.bbc.co.uk/wales/mid/sites/history/pages/elvis_rock_photos.shtml?7] The rock has been repainted several times, and at one point was totally destroyed. However the word “Elvis” has again reappeared on the rock and is still visible today. [http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/mid/4378339.stm]
