Wyra is a small town and mandal headquarters in Khammam district of Andhra Pradesh, India. It is located at a distance of 25 km from the district headquarters, Khammam.

Demography

Wyra has an approximate population of 51,205 according to 2001 census. Among them males constitutes 25,984 and females 25,221. The average literacy rate is 60.59%; which in males is 70.20% and female 50.73%.

Overview

The town is located on the state high way that passes between Khammam and other major cities of the district (such as Kothagudem, Bhadrachalam and Madhira). This stretch of the highway is an important connector between the district head quarters and the rest of the cities in the district.

The town's location and it's strategic importance as a junction point has been so helpful for the development of it's local economy.

The town is famous for "Lord Ayyappa Temple" located on the highway between Wyra and Khammam. There are other famous temples such as "Lord Rama Temple" near the Old bus stand center and "Sai Baba Temple" near Madhu Vidyalayam.

Wyra reservoir

Wyra reservoir is located next to the town. It provides drinking water and also helps the local irrigation to the farming lands.There is a future proposal for "water sports" at this reservoir.

New Assembly constituency

According to the recent revison of "Assembly Segments" in the state of Andhra Pradesh, Wyra has been alloted a new Assembly Segment (was a part of "Madhira" assembly segment until 2004 State Elections). This is reserved for a general quota candidature.
