Boomfancy

Boomfancy

Boomfancy was a DIY punk band with members from Little Rock, Arkansas and New York, New York. The band formed in May 2000 as Anna Newell and Mike Lierly began practicing as a two-piece, writing songs tentatively for their band Soophie Nun Squad. Natalja Kent, a college mate of Lierly and Nate Powell's from School of Visual Arts, met them in Little Rock with the intent of starting a band in her four-day visit. Kent and Powell joined the two-piece, along with friend Jenny Holt, played two shows without a band name, and recorded a four-song demo.

Over the summer of 2000, the band (as The Teenage Shortwave) played six shows across the midwestern and mid-Atlantic U.S., as all members were touring together with Soophie Nun Squad and The Body. In August 2000, the quintet (finally with its proper name) recorded a 7-song 7".

Boomfancy toured again in January 2001 with fellow punk band Abe Froman from Michigan (composed of Erin Tobey, Matt Tobey, and Ryan Batkie). The two bands intended to release a split LP together but Boomfancy never regularly played again. In August 2002, Boomfancy was to reunite in Providence, Rhode Island (home of four members at various points) to record the split LP, but Lierly, Newell, and Holt could not appear. Boomfancy evolved into a project called Braids To Your Ass, consisting of Powell and Kent along with Peter Woods of Cobra Kai/The Good Good, Dan Pastrana of Anton Bordman/Halo Perfecto, and Sara T Huber. Braids To Your Ass performed once at The Sickle space in Olneyville and never recorded. Soophie Nun Squad eventually released the split LP with Abe Froman that Boomfancy did not complete.

Boomfancy's final show was a surprise performance on January 1, 2003 in Little Rock, Arkansas. Tem Eyos Ki, The Insides, Defiance Ohio (their first show), The Good Good, The Devil is Electric, and Matty Pop Chart also performed.
