Brisbane ,Queensland ,Australia , formerly known as Briz 31 and more recently as 31 Brisbane. Its programming features one locally produced show. It is broadcast on UHFchannel 31 at 548.224 MHz, from the ABQ-2 transmitter tower on Mount Coot-tha. In the past, Briz31 offered newcomers to the media an opportunity to gain experience before entering commercial broadcasting, suchQUT media students. The station also carries a number of programs originally developed at otherChannel 31 stations in other states. Briz31 has always broadcast old movies, classic television shows and programming. News bulletins come from theQueensland University of Technology during the uni semester. "QUT News" is produced by journalism students and broadcast from their Kelvin Grove studio. Outside of the semester bulletins are sourced fromDeutsche Welle andVoice of America .The station commenced transmission from its West End studios on
July 31 ,1994 . The station completed a much welcomed upgrade to its transmitter strength, boosting range and greatly improving quality of reception, a common complaint against the station, in October 2005. However, it is currently not broadcast in digital as it has not been allocated any digital spectrum, but there is a campaign to achieve this outcome. In July 2008 the
ACMA commenced its year long review of community television licenses - in August 2008, two weeks after the review commenced, Station Manager Andrew Carroll resigned from his much-criticised position at 31. Carroll had all but replaced all long standing staff during his two year stint as Station Manager, drawing heavy public criticism along with Board Member Jim Elder (A Labor party member until 2000 when he resigned afterThe Shepherdson Inquiry forced him to admit electoral fraud) for also dismissing long standing members of the community station and causing widespread public distrust in the once-popular community station. TheACMA invites public comment on community licensing. [http://www.acma.gov.au/WEB/HOMEPAGE/PC=HOME]ee also
