Pioneer Natural Resources Co. (nyse|PBX) is an Irving, Texas-based oil and gas company. The company was created in 1997 by the merger of Parker & Parsley Petroleum Company and MESA Inc. In 2004, Pioneer Natural Resources merged with Evergreen Resources, Inc. The company has approximately 1700 employees worldwide. Pioneer Natural Resources is historically a Texas-based oil company. Pioneer Natural Resources is the largest producer in the Spraberry Trend Area in west Texas and the Raton Basin in southeastern Colorado. It is one of the largest producers in the gas field around Hugoton, Kansas and in the western part of the Texas Panhandle. It is also active in south Texas.

In recent years, Pioneer Natural Resources has expanded internationally and has made major investments in Tunisia and South Africa. It is also active in Alaska.

Pioneer Natural Resources' main business is the exploration and production of oil, natural gas liquids, and gas reserves.
