StageHD is a video sharing website owned and operated by Stage Media, Inc., where users can upload, share, and view video clips. StageHD is different from other video services in that are streaming high quality video clips, they are encoded with DivX and Xvid video codecs.

The site is still in beta however it is growing rapidly.

History

First launched in February 2008 by Larry Mccartney as Stage-Next but due to it merging with VuitHD a small website, where the two owners partnered to create StageHD, however after a while the partner left StageHD for unknown reasons and the original CEO of Stage-Next is still running StageHD as normal. StageHD is similar to other video sharing sites like YouTube, Daily motion or Veoh in allowing streaming video to be uploaded freely by anyone willing to register.

In February 2008 DivX, Inc. announced that it would be closing Stage6, the owner created the initial idea for StageHD shortly after their closure, making friends within the online communities left over after the closure, StageHD was able to get a significant amount of quality users to beta test the site.

StageHD is geared towards being the hip new replacement for all media type social networking sites with faster distribution and more.

Usage

StageHD accepts a wide variety of video content, including TV clips and trailers, music videos and feature length television episodes, as well as fan subbed Japanese Animation being produced in the near future. Unregistered users can view and download to their hard-drive all videos on the site.

all users have access to all content on the site. These include:
* "18+" videos. These usually containing pornography or other sexually stimulating content, excessive blood and gore or obscenity. Note that StageHD does not censor offensive content.

* Comments. The users have an opportunity to add a comment, placed below the video.

StageHD is building its own search engine profiling the videos by the user-generated tags and their popularity.

The differences between StageHD and other sites include better quality video through use of higher resolutions up to 1080p, few upload limitations, the option to download media directly through the website or the DivX Web Player, without the need to install browser extensions, and the use of DivX video codec instead of Flash Video. Unlike most video sharing websites, StageHD requires the installation of the "DivX Web Player" to view videos, one of the most respectable things is that StageHD monitors and reads all requests for features no matter how crazy they are, they put an effort to make sure every user is happy, also making sure not one user gets adware, spyware or viruses through their site.

Technical

StageHD accepts DivX or Xvid encoded files up to 1080p60, exceeding DVD quality.The video playback is based on the DivX codec and requires the user to download and install a web browser plug-in in order to view video. Since the "DivX Web Player" was designed specifically for viewing videos, streamed on extremely high quality, high resolution videos were made possible under comparatively low CPU usage.Unlike its buddy Stage6, as a premium member they are allowed to upload any type of video, with MP2, MP3, AC3 etc, also allowing uploads of .H264 to be converted to DivX(FMP4/div4(5))

Copyright

StageHD does not permit the upload of copyrighted content without the original author's permission, and all content will be deleted for breaching these terms. Unlike Stage6 it monitors uploaded videos and will be adding features to ensure no video is a movie uploaded to the site.
