Enschede ,The Netherlands . It serves as a civil airport, though used to be militaryairport . The military component was shut down in2007 . When it was still a military airport it was used mainly as a base forF-16 s from theRoyal Netherlands Air Force , the last of which left in November2005 .There are currently no scheduled flights from the airport. Up until the end of 2007, charter Airline

The future of the airport is still uncertain, but a study from January
2006 concludes that the airport could grow to become a profitable regional airport with a capacity of three million passengers a year. About five million people live within a radius of 70km of the airport in both the Netherlands andGermany . Currently all commercial flights from the airport have been suspended until further notice. In July 2008 RTV Oost, a local TV station, reported that the Dutch government is investigating the possibility of moving of military flights fromEindhoven Airport back to the former airbase. The possible move would involve the 334 and 336 Squadrons currently stationed at Eindhoven to make more room there for civilian flights and to return Twente to being a military airbase. At this moment only recreational activity takes place at Twente. The Twentsche Zweefvlieg Club (glider club) and the Twentsche Radio Modelvlieg Club (radio controlled model aircraft club) use the field. The Twentsche Zweefvlieg Club is the oldest, still existing, user or the airport, having used Twente as their homebase for over seventy years.
