Malabar Cements is a government cement factory located at Walayar , in Palakkad . It has got a limestone mine located 9 km away from the Walayar. Malabar Cements has also got a 'Cement Plant' section in Walayar. Most of the employees of Malabar Cements are from Walayar and near by places in Palakkad. There is a employee quarters located near the Walayar Dam. Previously this was the one of the biggest revenue making company to the state of Kerala. But its revenue to the state decreased for a little bit amount of time. Malabar Cements is recovering in to its previous state now. The current conditions proved that.

Walayar has become a town due to the presence of Malabar Cements. As the number of employees from Walayar and near by places are more , It made the effect to Walayar to become a famous town.
