Suckiaug

Suckiaug

Suckiaug, meaning Black Fertile River-Enhanced Earth, good for planting, is the name of the land lining the river valley of what is currently Hartford, Windsor, Wethersfield, South Windsor, East Hartford, Glastonbury, Rocky Hill, and various communities lining the river where the soil is black and fertile, good for life sustaining croplands and population growth. In 1623, the Dutch settled this land called it Fort Huys de Goede Hoop or the Fort House of Good Hope, the English came with Thomas Hooker leading the flock of 100 from Newetowne now the location of Harvard College of what is currently now called Cambridge in 1636, which is 16 years after Newe-Plymouth was settled and 6 years after the Massachusetts Baye was settled with Newtowne, Dorchester, and Watertown thus called Hertford then Hartford, Windsor, and Wethersfield. In 1639 the Fundamental Orders were established as an agreement between the residents of Hartford, Windsor, and Wethersfield for a conglomeration governing body to form the Colony of the Plantacons of the Connecticott River, now called the State of Connecticut. Hartford or Suckiaug, has both the Town, City, Shire/County, State government heads of a much larger swarth of land, as the State of Connecticut of the United States of America which is a member state of the United Nations.
