Suckiaug, meaning Black Fertile River-Enhanced Earth, good for planting, is the name of the land lining the river valley of what is currently
Hartford ,Windsor ,Wethersfield ,South Windsor ,East Hartford ,Glastonbury ,Rocky Hill , and various communities lining the river where the soil is black and fertile, good for life sustaining croplands and population growth. In 1623, theDutch settled this land called itFort Huys de Goede Hoop or the Fort House of Good Hope, theEnglish came withThomas Hooker leading the flock of 100 fromNewetowne now the location ofHarvard College of what is currently now calledCambridge in 1636, which is 16 years afterNewe-Plymouth was settled and 6 years after theMassachusetts Baye was settled withNewtowne ,Dorchester , andWatertown thus calledHertford then Hartford, Windsor, and Wethersfield. In 1639 theFundamental Orders were established as an agreement between the residents of Hartford, Windsor, and Wethersfield for a conglomeration governing body to form the Colony of thePlantacons of the Connecticott River, now called theState of Connecticut . Hartford or Suckiaug, has both theTown ,City ,Shire /County ,State government heads of a much larger swarth of land, as theState of Connecticut of theUnited States of America which is a member state of theUnited Nations .Referenes
