Paul Bishop (actor)

Paul Bishop, born in 1966 in Gladstone, Queensland is an Australian actor of television and theater, a Presenter and MC, and Company Director of Arts Evolution Pty Ltd.

A Graduate of QUT, Bishop's film debut was in the 1997 movie "Paradise Road". He is best known for playing Sergeant Ben Stewart on "Blue Heelers" from 1998 to 2004 for which he received Logie nominations in both 1999 and 2000. Paul appeared with Claudia Karvan in the TeleMovie " Never Tell me Never", and has had many TV credits including MDA III, Heartbreak High and GP with ABCTV, HouseGang with SBS, Murder Call for Channel 10. He has an extensive range of theatre credits in productions such as "Three Days of Rain, Money and Friends, Take Me Out, The Shaughraun", at Melbourne Theatre Company, Blackrock, The John Wayne Principle and Anthony Crowley's 'The Frail Man' at Melbourne's Playbox, "The John Wayne Principle"," As You Like It", "Poor Superman", "Saint Joan", 'Amy's View' and "Money and Friends" with The Sydney Theatre Company. Romeo and Juliet, Oedipus the King, Away, Taming of the Shrew, The Game of Love and Chance and almost 20 other professional credits with Queensland Theatre Company since 1986.

In 2008, Paul has performed as an Actor with Australian Festival of Playwriting in Brisbane, and will appear as Jean-Marc in August Moon and then Algernon in The Importance of Being Earnest with The Queensland Theatre Company. In 2006, Bishop appeared in the movie "48 Shades", based on the Nick Earls novel "48 Shades of Brown" and he appeared on stage in Operator for La Boite Theatre, The Carnivores for Black Swan Theatre, Perth, The Woman Before and Puss in Boots with Queensland Theatre Company. In 2007 he performed and toured Private Fears in Public Places for QTC and NSW tour, and played a minor role in the feature 'How To Change in 9 Weeks'.

He has been the host and MC for 2006, 2007 and 2008 presentations of 'Creative Generation: State Schools on Stage', the Queensland Department for Training, Education and the Arts showcase event for Queensland students @ QPAC, Brisbane. He was Co-Writer/Narrator and Student Mentor of 2007 Redland Spring Festival Production of EarthFireAirWater: An Oratorio and the 2007 Memento Awards at the Sofitel.

Paul is an elected representative of Actors Equity's National Performers Committee with MEAA and has been an Associate Artist with the Queensland Theatre Company since 2006/8.He attended the 2008 Skoll World Forum on Social Entrepreneurship in Oxford, UK, with assistance from Arts Queensland. He is director and Chief Inspiration Officer of Arts Evolution Pty Ltd, a social business committed to creative innovation, raising awareness about the human condition and promoting sustainable productivity for individuals and groups. Arts Evolution is developing Paul Bishop's philosophy LoveWork™: A Lifestyle Ethic for Sustainable Human Futures, connecting and engaging people with purpose. He is brother to Steven Bishop, a former dentist and now clown for Cirque du Soleil's Varekai, and Michael Bishop, a former model and creator of the Alchemy Cordial Company.
