Jon Winningham

Jonathan Lewis “Jon” Winningham (born December 1955) is a former city council member of Calimesa, California. He was arrested in 2005, while still a councilman, for possession of child pornography.

While awaiting trial, Mr. Winningham refused to step down from his seat on the city council, even though signed petitions were delivered from city residents requesting that he do so. He decided not to run for re-election in November 2006 and gave up his council seat.

He admitted guilt to all charges and was convicted on January 26, 2007 for 10 felony counts of intent to distribute child pornography and three misdemeanor counts of possession of child pornography. He also admitted an addiction to child pornography and was sentenced to 360 days in the Riverside County jail and 5 years probation. His probation expires on January 25, 2012. Under the provision's of Megan's Law, Mr. Winningham must also register as a sex offender. Mr. Winningham was released from custody on 9/11/07, after serving a little over seven months of his one-year sentence.

On 9/22/08, Mr. Winningham was arrested for violating the conditions of his probation, in particlular, for having contact with someone over the Internet. Mr. Winningham was arrested in a Banning, California hotel room awaiting a meeting with a Riverside County Sexual Assault and Felony Enforcement (SAFE) Team decoy. He was released on $5,000 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned on 10/15/2008 for his probation violation.
