Lloyd H. Dean

Lloyd H. Dean is an American health care executive. He is president and chief executive officer of Catholic Healthcare West and a director of Wells Fargo & Company.

Dean began his corporate career with the Upjohn Company, where he rose through the management ranks to the post of national vice president of sales for the Upjohn Health Care Services Division. He received the W.E. Upjohn Award for management and operational excellence.

Later, he was executive vice president and chief operating officer of Advocate Health Care, a faith-based integrated health care system in Oak Park, Illinois.

In April 2000 he joined Catholic Healthcare West as president and chief executive officer. Dean immediately began a turnaround in the system of 42 hospitals and ancillary services in California, Nevada, and Arizona. The group went from several years of steep losses to an operating profit in 2003, also receiving ratings upgrades from Standard and Poor's, Moody's Investor Services, and Fitch Ratings, as well as rising inpatient and employee satisfaction scores.

He is a director of Wells Fargo & Company, California Healthcare Association, Mercy Housing California, and the Catholic Health Association of the United States, and a member of McKesson's Advisory Board, the Health Research and Development Institute, Governor Schwarzenegger's California Commision on Jobs, San Francisco Committee on Jobs, American College of Healthcare Executives, and the American Hospital Association.
