Aftermath

Biden had been re-elected, all time by confortable margins, in 1978, 1984, 1990, 1996 and 2002, which made him currently sixth-most senior Senator, as well as 4th most senior Democrat. Biden is also current Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and was in past chairman of the Judiciary Committee.

Biden ran for President in 1988 and 2008, each times drooping-out early, but was selected as 2008 Democratic Party nominee for Vice President of the United States, still running for seventh Senate term, being favored to win.
