Music

"Influences"

Dissident Genro's influences not only lie with Western artists like Pain Of Salvation, Peter Gabriel and Tears for Fears, but with Japanese partakers of the visual kei movement such as The GazettE, and J-rock artists such as Gackt, Casiopea and T-SQUARE. The band's creator, Rimu, has spoken of his wish to "musically marry [his] East and Western influences and create a uniqueness from the concoction" [cite web

The band's frontman - also the lyricist and songwriter - pens songs using his own experiences and idols as inspiration. For instance, the song of the single "Psychonaut" is the musical expression of Rimu's frustration with people who habitually take drugs to justify their existence. While the inspiration for "No Reason" from the "Mirrored" EP, a popular song among fans, came from past personal troubles regarding friendships and relationships, "Endless Spiral" was influenced by the disintegration of social structure, and the disintrest the media might show in people who have something worthwhile to contribute to society.

Various songs of Dissident Genro's are titled after the key idols of the frontman. Notably, the song "Myv (Time Fleeting)", first performed publicly at Chibicon 2008, is a tribute to the J-rock guitarist Miyavi, for whom Rimu has great admiration [cite web

"Musical style"

Along with the visual kei style instantly noticable in the band's performances, Dissident Genro's music is largely characterized by lightening speed guitar solos [cite web

During the second day of Chibicon 2008, fans who heard the band's as yet unreleased single "Lynch (Shock Wave)" performed were invited to dance on the stage. "I believe there should NEVER be a boundary between the fan and the artist - We are all humans and equal, and to be honest the most important and greatest people are the people who take their time out to listen to my music and show their appreciation, you are all truly the best, without you all I would be nothing and my music would mean nothing."
