Swiss Cup 2008–09

Swiss Cup 2008–09 is the eighty-fourth season of Switzerland's annual cup competition. It began on September 20 with the first games of Round 1 and will end on June 1, 2009 with the Final at Stade de Suisse, Bern. The winner will earn a place for the third qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League. FC Basel are the defending champions.

Participating clubs

Nine Super League teams (FC Vaduz are from Liechtenstein and thus play in the Liechtenstein Cup 2008–09) and all sixteen Challenge League member clubs entered this year's competition, as well as thirteen teams from 1. Liga and 26 teams from lower leagues (their level within the Swiss league pyramid is given in parentheses below). Teams from 1. Liga and below had to qualify through separate qualifying rounds within their leagues.

Round 1

Teams from Super League and Challenge League were seeded in this round. In a match, the home advantage was granted to the team from the lower league, if applicable.

Round 2

The winners of Round 1 will play in this round. Teams from Super League were seeded. In a match, the home advantage was granted to the team from the lower league, if applicable.

*fnb|2 After violent altercations in the Round 1 match between Wacker Grenchen and FC Alle, both teams were expelled from the competition. BSC Young Boys, who originally were to face the winner of this match, hence were awarded a walkover for this round.

Round 3

The winners of Round 2 will play in this round. In a match, the home advantage will be granted to the team from the lower league, if applicable. The matches will be played on November 23 and November 24, 2008.

Quarter-finals

The winners of Round 3 will play in this round. The matches will be played in March 2009.

emi-finals

The winners of the Quarter-finals will play in this round. The matches will be played in April 2009.

Final

The Final will be played at Stade de Suisse, Bern on June 1, 2009.
