August 25 ,2008 . The first chapter was started by Founder Ben Masselink, then a sophomore atDuke University . BOI has since informally recruited and initiated several other members during the inaugural fall semester in 2008. The first formal rushing and pledging process will commence in Winter 2008 and continue into the Spring. Many Beta Omicron Iota members, or BOI's as they're often referred to, are frequent participants in various philanthropic activities and are all very involved members of the community. Beta Omicron Iota was founded at
Duke University onAugust 25, 2008 . The term "Boi" was first coined by member A.J. Jay Feld to describe a "genuinely great guy". Following its widespread use, the term made its jump to global networks viaJuicy Campus . The site describes itself as an enabler of "online anonymous free speech on college campuses." There, BOI gained recognition as it was applied to well known students around campus.
