The Purple winged mantis ('Tenodera australasiae') is species of praying mantis. Found in Australia and in most parts of Brisbane (QLD). Both male and female are compatible of flight, this breed has not yet known to be Parthenogenic but further research is in hand. Tenodera the genus has a number of species including *"T. angustipennis" - "narrow-winged mantis","T. aridifolia sinensis" - "Chinese mantis","T. australasiae" - "purple-winged mantid","T. superstitiosa" found in Africa.

Purple winged mantis has sterdy diet of mainly other insects and has been seen eating much larger animals such as small frogs, lizards etc. Tenodera australasiae can be canableistic but is quite a not so agro mantis.
