"Goal Line Blitz" is a web-based, American football MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game). "Goal Line Blitz" was created by Peter and Jesse, known in-game as (Bort) and (DigitalDaggers). The game has approximately two hundred thousand players and is still growing after its creation in March 2008.Fact|date=August 2008

"Goal Line Blitz" allows users to sign up a free account and become an agent of a choice football player. Once he/she creates a player, the user is allowed to customize the player to his/her liking by editing their first and last name, position, and physical attributes. The user is then allowed to add equipment, sign a contract, displace skill points to their penchant. When getting more in depth with the game, users are able to pursue interests towards various in-game staff jobs - namely, ownership, general management, coordination and/or coaches of human-controlled football teams.

Gameplay

Registration Process

User registration requires a chosen username, valid email address, password, and CAPTCHA code. Goal Line Blitz disallows any IP address to create more than three accounts, to prevent cheating.

Flex Points

Flex Points are used to buy teams, create and Boost players, and purchase custom equipment. Users are given 400 free Flex Points with registration, and may purchase more at any time. Flex Points are sold in packages at a rate of $US1 per 100 Flex Points, although an increasing discount rate is applied as the purchase size increases. On occasion, gifts of 100 free Flex Points are distributed to each user, usually during holidays and the end of each season. Creating a player or boosting one level costs between 100 and 300 Flex Points depending on position.

Players

Most users begin by creating their own virtual players, represented by customizable avatars. Players can specialize in one of sixteen American football positions, such as quarterback or linebacker. Once created, a user (represented in-game as an "agent") can sign their virtual football player to a team, buy/create/improve the player's equipment, set the player's skill/attribute training, and adjust the player's tactics for a game. As the player improves, he is able to command more lucrative contracts, which will allow him to get better equipment.

Each player has several basic physical attributes (such as speed and strength) and football skills (such as tackling and catching), as well as special ability trees unique to their positions, that they can choose to develop. Points are assigned to these skills, attributes, and abilities. Each position requires a different, undisclosed combination of these attributes, skills, and abilities to be developed in order for the player to play well in games. Like many other MMORPGs, there is no linear path that must be followed.

Players earn experience through playing time and training. Once an athlete has gained enough experience, he will gain a level. Each level gives the athlete more points to assign to his attributes, skills, and abilites. A player's level can also be increased by "Boosting" with Flex Points, up to three levels per player per season.

Daily training was revamped in September 2008. The new system gives players 2 Training Points each day, which can be used to progress training percentage bars for each attribute; when a bar reaches 100% the relevant attribute will go up by 1 full point.

Team Owner

Owners manage several aspects of a team. They set ticket and concession prices, improve the team's stadium, build the roster, and set game-to-game tactics - the ultimate goal being to win the league championship.
