Gellerup is a western
suburb to the city ofAarhus ,Denmark . The name Gellerup is also commonly used to refer to a large housing project or Co-ups called Gellerupparken, known as the projects or the ghetto, located in the suburb. The housing project was built in 1968-72 and contains in total 1776apartment s. Gellerupparken consists of the characteristic high rise concrete apartments constructed of large, prefabricated concrete slabs.Gellerupparken was built to last for only 30 years to address the housing problems that suddenly emerged in the late 1960s.Fact|date=November 2007 It is still there, however it has been heavily renovated.
Today Gellerup is mostly known throughout Denmark for its multi-ethnicity due to a large concentration of people with foreign backgrounds.
