The Philadelphia Pennsylvania Temple is a planned temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to be constructed in the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania area. The announcement of the temple was made on October 4, 2008 during the church's 178th Semiannual Conference by President Thomas S. Monson. [cite news|url=http://www.deseretnews.com/article/1,5143,700264138,00.html|publisher=Deseret News|date=2008-10-04|accessdate=2008-10-04|first=James M|last=Dougherty|title=Rome LDS temple, four others announced ] The Temple, which will be the first in the state of Pennsylvania, will be built in downtown Philadelphia, near Spring Garden Street and Broad Street, just north of City Hall.
Announced concurrently with the Kansas City Temple, the temple brings the number of operating and announced temples in the United States to 72. The temple was also announced concurrently with the Calgary Alberta, Córdoba Argentina and Rome Italy temples, bringing the worldwide total to 145.
