David Reimer was born in Steinbach,
Manitoba . He attended Bible Collge from1980 to1985 , received a ministry license, and was appointed as an associate pastor in Wetaskiwin,Alberta in1986 . He campaigned as a CHP candidate for the Wetaskiwin riding in the 1988 federal election, and received 3,087 votes for a fifth-place finish. This result remains one of the best in CHP history.He returned to Steinbach in
1991 , and started the Shalom Family Worship Centre two years later. [http://www.chp.ca/manitobaRidings/] Reimer was elected to the Manitoba Provincial Council of the CHP in1992 , and later three terms as its national Prayer, Ethics and Personnel Director. In the late 1990s, he organized weekly meetings at the Shalom Family Worship Centre to pray that local Steinbach officials receive divine guidance in their deliberations ("Winnipeg Free Press",13 January 1999 ).In 2002, Reimer protested against a provincial law granting adoption rights to same-sex couples ("WFP",
