List of Lassie characters

List of Lassie characters

This List of Lassie characters compiles the various characters associated with the fictional rough collie called Lassie in print, film, and television.

Overview

In December 1938, Lassie was introduced to the world when author Eric Knight published a short story titled "Lassie Come-Home" in "The Saturday Evening Post". [Collins, Ace. "Lassie: A Dog's Life." Penguins Books, 1993.] Knight expanded the story into a full-length novel and published the work as "Lassie Come-Home" in 1940.

In 1943, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer released a film adaptation of the novel, and followed it with five other feature films over the next several years.

In 1954, Lassie became the star of an American television series set on a midwestern farm which was broadcast on CBS for seventeen years before entering syndication for two years. The show's last first-run episode aired in 1973.
