Censorship in Italy

In Italy censorship is appllied only from strong political powers and against situation that can contrast it.

Italy is one of the European member with lowest level of press freedom [ [http://www.freedomhouse.org/template.cfm?page=251&year=2006] FreedomHouse Map] .

Censorship is applyed in television such as in press for several reason.

One of most important example of censorship in Italy was the ban of one episode of tv show Le Iene showing use of drugs into the Italian Parliament [ [http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2006/oct/11/italy.broadcasting Italian condamned tv show] ]

Censorship from Italian govern not only use legal or is in contrast with international conventions or UE laws.

Italy is not categorized by ONI and is not on RSF's internet enemy list. Italy put embargo on foreign bookmakers over the Internet (in contrast with UE market's rules) by mandating certain edits to DNS host files of Italian ISPs. On this last block, a consumer-association, Altroconsumo, have announced reappeal.

Movie or cartoon are often modified or cut on national tv channels such as Mediaset or RAI.
