Albatross Golf Courses is the largest golf course developer and operator in Mexico. Albatross currently operates five golf courses in Mexico under its parent company Vedanta Capital Group and has four more projected for development by 2010. Albatross features several golf courses in the most important beach destinations in Mexico. They are typically found in or very near Grupo Mayan properties. Albatross’ golf courses include the Copra Golf Course in Acapulco, the Punta Sur Golf Course in Los Cabos, the Nayar Golf Course in Nuevo Vallarta, the El Manglar Golf Course in Riviera Maya, and the Peninsula Mar de Cortes Golf Course in Puerto Penasco also known as Rocky Point. There are another four courses currently under construction. Two of them will be in Los Cabos signed by Greg Norman Design and the other two in Puerto Penasco of Jack Nicklaus design.

Acapulco

Acapulco Copra Golf Course is one of the locals’ favorite golf courses. It is located in the Mexican Pacific Coast tourist zone Punta Diamante only 10 minutes from the International Airport, inside the Grupo Mayan property. [http://www.acapulco.com/en/golfsports/mayangolf/index.html] It is an 18 hole par 72 golf course and 6156 yards with 49 sand traps. It includes a practice range, caddie service and short game area. The club also includes a proshop, tennis courts and a restaurant and bar.

Among some of the tournaments held in this golf course was the XI National Interclub Couples Tournament held by the Mexican Women’s Golf Association. Some of the winners were Saskia Sanchez and Katia Bruhn, Tere and Alejandra Maymon. Puerto Penasco

Puerto Penasco Peninsula Mar de Cortes Golf Course is located on a 2 mile peninsula with a tidal estuary on one side and the Sea of Cortes ocean in the other, in La Jolla de Cortes. Mayan Riviera

Riviera Maya’s El Manglar Golf Course is a Nicklaus Design 18-hole golf course par 54 on 2923 yards surrounded by the Mayan jungle. El Manglar Golf Course was nominated one of Mexico’s Top Golf Courses in 2008. One of the most challenging holes in this course is hole 7 with 3 sandtraps and winds always against the player. The player will also always have the seaside winds against him on hole 18. Such Grupo Mayan luxury resorts include The Grand Mayan and Mayan Palace, and Mansions of the World and Grand Luxxe, which are currently under development.

Los Cabos

Los Cabos Punta Sur Golf Course was the first course on the southern tip of the Baja California Peninsula. Its original purpose was to help increase tourism. [http://www.grupomayangolf.com] Punta Sur is the golf course located inside the Grupo Mayan Country Club. It has 9 holes par 35 and 3153 yards. This course has a club house with a restaurant, snack area, swimming pool, tennis courts and a gym. The course also includes a putting green and a short game area. Los Cabos Punta Sur Golf Course is located close to downtown San Jose del Cabo only 5 minutes away from the hotel strip by the ocean.

Nuevo Vallarta

----Nuevo Vallarta Nayar Golf Course by Nicklaus Design is currently under construction. [http://www.grupomayangolf.com] It is located 15 minutes away from Puerto Vallarta International Airport (PVR) inside Nayar Town, inside the Grupo Mayan property. It has a practice range, 9 fully operational holes, a proshop and the Greenbreak Restaurant and Bar.

An important tournament previously held at the Nuevo Vallarta course was the Audi Final tournament. Nearly 50 women participated after winning in the different stages of the tournament throughout Mexico. The “stableford” style tournament was played on September 27th. The Audi Quattro Cup’s final was also played at the Nuevo Vallarta Golf Course. More than 90 players from all over the country participated in the final. The winners Javier Gaitan, Jaime Breton, Javier Orona and Alberto Chico qualified for the world golf finals at the Groove in London, England.
