Joan Arnau Pàmies

Joan Arnau Pàmies (born March 3, 1988 in Reus, Catalonia, Spain) is a Catalan composer of contemporary music.

He studied piano and composition at the Reus and Vila-seca Conservatories with Isabel Guinart, Àlex Samsó, Víctor Santapau, Cecilio Tieles, Enric Riu and Ramon Humet. He also received knowledge about modern music and jazz with pianist Mariano Díaz and vocalist Kena Toledo at L’Aula de Jazz i Música Moderna of the Liceu Conservatory in Barcelona. Since September 2007, Joan Arnau Pàmies resides in Boston, Massachusetts, where he is currently studying composition with John Heiss at the New England Conservatory. In addition, he participates in classes and conferences by Christian Wolff, Anthony Coleman, John Mallia, Michael Gandolfi, John Tyson, Klaus Lang, Misato Mochizuki, Marco Stroppa, Brian Ferneyhough, Benet Casablancas, Agustí Charles, Steve Reich, Alain Bancquart, Barbara Maurer, Anner Bylsma, György Kúrtag, and many others.

His music has been performed in Europe and America, in places like the International Summer Courses for New Music in Darmstadt, Germany, the Tuesday Night New Music Concerts in Boston, MassArt School Of Art in Boston, University of Regina in Canada, Martín Codax Hall in Vigo, Spain, Josep Carreras Hall in Vila-seca, Spain, and many others. Recently, Joan Arnau Pàmies has received a Stipendiary Prize from the 44th International Summer Courses for New Music in Darmstadt [http://www.imd.darmstadt.de/frameset.htm] and has been a regional winner of the SCI/ASCAP Student Commission Competition 2008 [http://www.societyofcomposers.org/] . He also has been invited to the SCI Student Conference with a performance of two pieces by him at the Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana this October 2008.
