watershed = 1,203 km² The Esino is a river of c. 85 km in theMarche , centralItaly . Its name could derive from the Latina "Aesis", the ancient city ofJesi (or vice versa).The river stems from the Monte Cafaggio, in the
province of Macerata , at c. 1,000 m, and first flows through the "comuni" ofEsanatoglia ,Matelica andCerreto d'Esi , and then flows into theprovince of Ancona . Subsequently it receives the waters of the Giano and, in the so-called "Gola della Rossa" ("Canyon of the Red"), of theSentino . After running at slower speed trhoughSerra San Quirico ,Maiolati Spontini ,Castelplanio andCupramontana , the Esino reaches Jesi andChiaravalle , flowing into theAdriatic Sea at Falconara Marittima.
