Youssef Boutros-Ghali

Youssef Boutros-Ghali (born 1952 in Cairo, Egypt) is the finance minister of Egypt since July 2004. He has, before his current post, been minister of economy and foreign trade (1999-2001), economy (1997-1999), economic affairs (1996-1997) and international cooperation (1993-1995).

He has studied at Cairo University (B.A. in Economics, 1974) and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Ph.D. in Economics, 1981). Upon graduation be begun working at the International Monetary Fund, where he stayed until 1986. Thereafter he worked as a governmental advisor in Egypt until 1993, when he begun his ministerial career.
