Some Girls (film)

"Some Girls" is a 1988 film starring Patrick Dempsey and Jennifer Connelly.

The story itself revolves around a college student Michael (played by Patrick Dempsey) who goes up to Montreal, Canada for Christmas at the request of his college girlfriend Gabriella (played by Jennifer Connelly). After months of Gabi stonewalling Michael after she left mid-semester in college. Patrick starts the vacation full of hope and youthful enthusiasm because she has invited him to stay with her family. Unfortunately, over the course of the movie, bad luck and the fickle female spirit continually thwart him. Gabi announces she no longer loves him as soon as he arrives. Both her beautiful sisters independently attempt to seduce him (with the apparent complicity of Gabi). Gabi has a change of heart, and then again decides she doesn’t love him, and Gabi grandma (the matriarch of the family) is convinced Michael is her long, dead husband. Near the end of the movie, after the grandmother has died during Michael’s brief stay, Michael encounters her “ghost” at her grave and realizes he loved this remarkable woman. Ultimately, he returns home, touched by the entire experience, but always an outsider to the D’Arc family. We are left to assume he never sees Gabi again (as she did not return to college).

Patrick Dempsey very briefly went full monty in a scene (since re-cropped on the DVD version).
