Sock Stress is an internal program developed by Jack C. Louis at [http://www.outpost24.com/ Outpost24] . Louis discovered anomalies using [http://www.unicornscan.org/ Unicornscan] to test and probe networks for corporate security which lead to the development of Sock Stress [ [http://debeveiligingsupdate.nl/audio/bevupd_0003.mp3 Interview with Robert E. This program allegedly uses techniques to create local resource consumption which crash a service or the entire machine, essentially a denial of service attack. So far it is reported that this affects all systems running any service utilizing TCP, including Windows, Mac, Linux, and BSD.
