The Rt Rev Roger Frederick Sainsbury was the Bishop of Barking from 1991 until 2002 [ [http://www.number10.gov.uk/Page2606 Resignation details] ] . He was born on 2 October 1936 [”Debrett's People of Today 1992” (London, Debrett's) ISBN 1870520092)] . and educated at Jesus College, Cambridge [”Who's Who 1992 “(London, A & C Black ISBN 0713635142)] before embarking on an ecclesiastical career with a curacy at Christ Church, Spitalfields [ [http://www.christchurchspitalfields.org/ Friends of CCS] ] after which he was: "Missioner" at Shrewsbury House, Liverpool [ [http://www.shrewsburyhouse.org.uk/ Organisation web site] ] ; Warden of the Mayflower Family Centre, Canning Town [ [http://www.eolfhs.org.uk/parish/canning_town.htm East of London FHS] ] ; Vicar of Walsall [“Crockford's clerical directory, 1995” (Lambeth,Church House ISBN 0715180886)] ; and finally, before elevation to the Episcopate, Archdeacon of West Ham. In retirement he continues to serve the Church as an Assistant Bishop within the Diocese of Bath and Wells.
