- Sébastien Fournier (Chemist)
Sébastien Fournier (born in
Annecy ,France onJanuary 9 ,1977 ) is achemist of dual citizenship toFrance andCanada . As ananotechnology expert living inToronto ,Canada , he currently serves as Chief Technology Officer of Fio Corporation. Background
After doing his undergraduate studies in Paris and receiving a "Maitrise” in analytical chemistry he graduated from
École Supérieure de Chimie Organique et Minérale as a chemical engineer. In 1998, he continued his education abroad to complete a M.Sc. at theUniversity of Toronto with Professor Michael Denk, where he worked as a synthetic organometallic chemist and developed new precursors for the chemical vapour deposition of copper, silver and gold. He earned his Ph.D. in 2005 under the guidance of Profs. Geoffrey Ozin and Ian Manners with a thesis entitled "The Nanochemist's Toolbox: Nanospheres, Nanorods, Nanorings".Dr Fournier accepted a position as a postdoctorate fellow at the institute of biomaterials and biomedical engineering at the
University of Toronto in the group of Prof. Warren Chan. He advanced to a Research Associate position where he further developed micro- and nano- quantum dot based barcodes for use in medical diagnostics. He is currently heading the R&D department as the CTO of Fio Corporation, developing diagnostic tools for infectious diseases.
