Messier is perhaps best known for his acting in the film Hard Luck, which was filmed in 2005, released to video in 2006, and picked up by the USA Network in 2008. In the film, Messier plays Eugene, the mentally challenged son of Cass, a serial killer played by Cybill Shepherd. In addition to a bathroom/bedroom sequence with Shepherd, Messier also shares a fight scenes against Wesley Snipes and director Mario Van Peebles in the climax of the film.
To a cult audience of late night Public-access television cable TV viewers in Rhode Island, Mr. Messier is known as the host/producer of The Mike Messier Show, an outlet for Messier's own short films and animations as well as a "community forum" for other filmmakers, comedians, musicians, and avante garde artists. One episode of The Mike Messier Show in 2005 featured Messier's tribute to The Station Fire, which included interviews with fire survivors and family members. Other memorable episodes included guests The Suicide Girls Burlesque Show (February and July 2004), rock band Skid Row (August 2003), filmmaker Michael Corrente (May 2007) and Ultimate Fighting Championship heavyweight champion Randy Couture (November 2005).

As a filmmaker, Messier's has created several films that have been reviewed by "hipster" indie film site Film Threat, including Rejected by Reality (2003)[1] and Wrestling Son (2005).[2]
Perhaps most promising for Messier's audience, is Wrestling with Sanity a feature film script Messier wrote based on Oedipus, which has already spawned two short films ; Sacrilege and God's Country. The feature film apparently will star ECW Wrestling superstar alumni RAVEN and Spike Dudley along with legendary wrestler Ox Baker (of Kurt Russell and John Carpenter film ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK).
God's Country won the 2008 Imagine News Boston Comedy Short Film Festival, tying with Gay Marriage a short film by Kevin Anderton of Midnight Chimes films from Boston.
