Rikitiki & Merendeque is a Spanish rap and reggaetón duo from San José, Costa Rica. They have achieved limited notoriety through a series of music videos on MySpace and YouTube widely considered bizarre and offensive [http://www.89decibeles.com/comunidad/foro/bandas-nacionales/2024] . The graphic nature of their work has earned them a small cult following in Costa Rica and a few other countries throughout Latin America.

They claim to be the pioneers of "Regazón", what they call a new genre that blends Cumbia, Hip Hop and Psychedelic Trance. Regazón ("big spill") refers to an ejaculation or secretion of sorts. Their tagline is "a pervert's prophecy, leaving a puddle behind." [http://www.myspace.com/vienerikitiki]

The real identity of both members is still unknown and their legitimacy as either 2 really good actors or just a really bad group is also largely questioned [http://n195.blogspot.com/2008_09_01_archive.html] . Lyrics of their songs tend to focus on sex. Hard drugs, reckless behavior and bodily fluids are also recurrent themes [http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rikitiki_%26_Merendeque] .

History

Their song "Viene Rikitiki" first emerged in 2004 as an instrumental edit through the on-air ad campaign for the new season of local TV show "El Chinamo", and was never heard again [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2AJZw5M_Vl4] . In August 2006, their Official MySpace profile emerged, then entitled "DJ Horny Presents... Rikitiki & Merendeque", including free downloads for songs "Viene Rikitiki (de Perez Zeledón)" ("Here comes Rikitiki", and also a pun on "Here "cums" Rikitiki"), "Chucheca"' ("Shellfish"), and "Sexo Sudoroso" ("Sweaty Sex"). No pictures of the actual members were profiled; a gallery consisting on a series of feces was included instead [http://www.myspace.com/vienerikitiki] .

In July 2008, the actual members of the band were introduced through their first music video, "Viene Rikitiki". Videos for "Chucheca" and "Sexo Sudoroso" dayviewed on their YouTube Channel a few weeks later.

Music

"Viene Rikitiki" is an introduction of sorts to the world of Rikitiki, who hails from Perez Zeledón. In it Rikitiki confesses to having semen in her mouth and Merendeque resents that crack is illegal. The music video for "Viene Rikitiki" also features both members smoking what appears to be marijuana [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T5cAoqMO4mc] .

In "Chucheca", Rikitiki advises young women to treat their shellfish nicely and give up any reluctance to experiment with meat, fish, bones or lack thereof, while Merendeque announces his taste for "heavy flow" in his salad. The music video for "Chucheca" features Rikitiki and Merendeque playing with themselves and Rikitiki simulating oral sex with a big sausage [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWWApOks2rk] .

"Sexo Sudoroso" is Rikitiki's and Merendeque's warning on the dangers of unprotected sex, although they both admit to "liking it raw". The song focuses on the importance of safe sex to avoid having your life ruined by STDs, an unwanted pregnancy, or having to pay child support. The music video for the song includes footage of actual births [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X_Ox32SgHZU] .

Discography

On September 2, 2008, their EP, "Viene Rikitiki", featuring all three songs, was made available on iTunes, Rhapsody, Napster, and amazon.com.
