Health Sciences Online (HSO) is a
non-profit online health information resource from theWorld Health Organization .The website aims to provide quality educational resources to
health care provider s, especially indeveloping countries , thus bridging thedigital divide (the global imbalance in access to information technology). The underlying aim is to support theUnited Nations 'Millennium Development Goals ofpublic health .HSO launched in September 2008. The website hosts a virtual learning center providing
weblink s to a collection of courses, references, textbooks, guidelines, lectures, presentations, cases, articles, images and videos in different languages. The content currently focuses onmedicine , but there are plans to expand tonursing ,pharmacy ,dentistry ,kinesiology and otherhealth sciences .Founding collaborators include the
U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention , theWorld Bank , theAmerican College of Preventive Medicine , and theUniversity of British Columbia . Funding is obtained from the Canadian andBritish Columbian government s, the World Health Organization,NATO ’s Science for Peace Program and others. TheWorld Medical Association is also a partner.References
