Anoop Chandola (born 24th
December 1937), is an Americanlinguist -anthropologist , originally fromPauri (Uttarakhand )India , where he was raised in a priestlyBrahmin family.He was educated at the
Christian Messmore IntermediateCollege ofPauri . After completing a year of intermediate education he joined the DAV College ofLucknow for his second and last year of intermediate.Before moving to the USA in 1959, Chandola was educated at the universities of
Allahabad andLucknow where he graduated with university degrees inSanskrit , English, andHindi literature . His last two degrees inlinguistics include anMA from the University of California, Berkeley, and aPh.D from theUniversity of Chicago .Chandola is considered an
international authority onIndian culture .He lives in
Tucson Arizona , USA, with his wife SudhaCareer
Chandola has taught
Indian literature ,culture , andreligion at several universities in India and the USA, including Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel University, the M.S.University ofBaroda ,University of California atBerkeley ,University of Washington atSeattle ,University of Texas atAustin , andUniversity of Wisconsin atMadison He is a member of numerous professional associations including the
American Anthropological Association ,Association for Asian Studies ,Linguistic Society of America, and Linguistic Society ofIndia .Though he retired as
Professor Emeritus ofEast Asian Studies at theUniversity of Arizona in 2003, his writing career continues. He has written twelvebooks and a series ofarticles . He is a frequent guestlecturer onHinduism and related religions.Academic Books
