Condega was the name of an Indian town found in Nicaragua by Fray Alonso Ponce in 1576 when he was entering Nicaragua while he was coming from Honduras, he noted thst the Indinas spoke a language different that the language of Mexicas (Nahuatl or Mangue), he called it Ulua. It is believed Ulua is the same language as Popoluca or Matagalpa language. According to Dr. Jaime Incer, Condega is a matagalpa term, and that town was located between Choluteca and Somotillo. The current Condega is located farther southeast, in the current province of Esteli. Eddy Kuhl Source: Incer, Dr. Jaime. Toponimias Indigenas de Nicaragua
