Yamaguchi-ryū was a sword art created by Yamaguchi Bokushinsai. Yamaguchi and his sword style were arguably lost to the annals of history due to the disdain of Sengoku Period techniques derived from the civil strife in the peaceful Tokugawa-ruled Edo Period [ [http://suimokai.pupu.jp/english/founder.html] "...it is safe to say that there are no records for Yamaguchi-ryu along with the name Bokushinsai. In all likelihood, similarly as there would be later with Gettan's kenjutsu, there is a strong possibility that the old traditions of the Warring States Period (as followed by Yamaguchi) caused the popularity of the style (and its founder) to wane."] . At some point in his life, Bokushinsai studied the Kashima Shinto-ryū of Tsukahara Bokuden, the Shinkage-ryū of Kamiizumi Hidetsuna, and Awaga-ryū [ [http://suimokai.pupu.jp/english/founder.html] "...The teacher he revered, Bokushinsai Yamaguchi, began his training in Kashimashinto-ryu and later learned such styles as Shinkage-ryu and Awaga-ryu.
