Elswick is a ward of the city of
Newcastle upon Tyne ,England , in the western part of the borough, bordering theriver Tyne . The name is well known in connection with the great ordnance and naval works of Sir W. G. Armstrong, "Mitchell & Co. Elswick Park", attached to the old mansion of the same name, is now a public recreation ground. The population of the ward is 11,325, 4.4% of the total population of Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Car ownership in the area is 33%: this is much lower than the city average of 54.7%.Education
Elswick ward has two primary schools,
St Michael s RC and Canning Street, and one nursery school. Also within the ward is Newcastle College.Recreation and leisure

The Elswick ward boundary begins at the junction of Westgate Road and Elswick Road, heading west along Westgate Road and West Road to Pendower Hall School. The boundary then heads south along the rear of the properties on Denhill Park to Westholme Gardens. It carries along Oakfield Gardens and along the allotment gardens to Benwell Lane. From Benwell Lane the boundary continues east onto Adelaide Terrace then south along St John’s Road to the Buddle Road roundabout. It then continues to the west of St Johns Walk and Joseph Close. It follows Scotswood Road west to
William Armstrong Drive and continues down to the River Tyne and along to the Redheugh Bridge. It follows the bridge north onto St James’ Boulevard and the junction with Westmorland Road where it heads west to Elswick Park. The boundary heads north on Elswick Road and then back to the start at Westgate Road.Charts and tables
