List of StarCraft media

This is a list of media related to the "StarCraft" series. "StarCraft" is a science fiction media franchise made predominantly of real-time strategy video games developed and published by Blizzard Entertainment. Central to the series are "StarCraft", "" and "StarCraft II", which carry the main story arc. In addition, the series incorporates a number of types of media, including spin-off video game titles, novelizations, graphic novels and other literature, as well as tabletop games. Set in the 26th century, the series revolves around three species—the Terrans, humans exiled from Earth adept at adapting to any situation; the Zerg, a race of insectoids obsessed with assimilating other races in pursuit of genetic perfection; and the Protoss, a humanoid species with advanced technology and psionic abilities attempting to preserve their civilization and strict philosophical way of living from the Zerg—fighting for dominance in a distant part of the Milky Way galaxy.

Conceived by Chris Metzen and James Phinney, the "StarCraft" series has been a commerical and critical success. The first game, "StarCraft", is regarded as being highly influential in the real-time strategy genre. Combined with its official expansion, "Brood War", over 10 million copies of "StarCraft" have been sold globally.cite web |url=http://www.usatoday.com/tech/gaming/2007-05-21-starcraft2-peek_N.htm |title=South Korean gamers get a sneak peek at 'StarCraft II' |accessdate=2008-08-26 |author=Olsen, Kelly |date=2007-05-21 |publisher=USA Today] "StarCraft" remains one of the most popular online games in the world; Blizzard Entertainment reported an 800 percent increase in the use of its Battle.net service after the game's release in 1998.
