“’Mighty Five’” is an American funk band, formed in 2005 in New York City. The band consists of multi-instrumentalists Zach Abramson and Derek Muro and is noted for it’s colorful fiction backstory and P-Funk inspired mythology.

History

Origins (2004)

Mighty Five began as a collaboration between two roommates: Zach Abramson and Derek Muro first met while studying classical composition at the Manhattan School of Music in New York City. While working on their undergraduate degrees, the pair decided to start a project of their own that would hearken back to some of the genres which first inspired them to study music as children: P-funk-esque funk, rock, old school hip-hop and 1980s pop music.

Five Alive (2005)

In 2005 Mighty Five released their first EP, entitled Five Alive, as a free download from the social networking website Myspace.

Vortexx (2008)

After the release of Five Alive, the duo returned to the studio to record their first full-length album, a process which would take over two years to complete. The result was Vortexx, which was also made available without cost, this time as a direct download from the band’s website, [http://www.dimensionf.com www.dimensionf.com] .
