Maetan-dong

Maetan dong (매탄동) is part of Yeongtong-gu. It is further subdivided into Maetan 1 dong, Maetan 2 dong, Maetan 3 dong and Maetan 4 dong. Most of the Maetan dong is residential area, with many residential apartments. There are also many schools in the area, which serve the local population. Most of the residents in Maetan 1,2 and 4 dong are from upper middle class and land prices reflect that. Maetan 4 dong being close to Samsung electronics is a slightly expensive neighborhood. Maetan 1 dong has historic Korean style market called Maetan shijang (시장), where one can find traditional Korean stuff required for Korean cooking. Maethan 1 dong being close to Ajou University has a sizeable student population. It also attracts the foreign students at Ajou because of cheap rents here.
