Travis Brown (cyclist)

Travis Brown (born August 7, 1969) is an American professional bicycle racer. He competes in cross-country mountain bike and cyclo-cross races but has also raced on road bicycles.

Biography

Brown started racing professionally in 1990 and partially retired at the end of 2004. Brown is still taking part in mountain bike and cyclo-cross races but not as many as in the past. Brown is less part of the Trek-Volkswagen factory team, more a sponsored racer for the company, in product development and testing of parts in races.

Brown's changing facial hair, earrings, and tattoos were a source of controversy in the early 1990s.

In 1990 he raced the first UCI World Mountain Biking Championships in his hometown of Durango, CO, won the US National Champion MTB XC race in 1999 and won the Marathon National Championship at Mammoth Mountain California in 2005.

29er

Brown was one of the first racers to race on single-speed bicycles and on 29-inch wheels, a design known as the "29er". He won the Single Speed World Championship in 1999 and 2002.Travis is a member of Intergalactic Pilots, single speed riders in the Rocky Mountains.
