ynopsis

On the Kona Coast, plantation owner Ames Caldwell has located the hidden burial chamber of King Kamehameha I, and removed the sacred cloak from it. Local kahuna Lanakila accuses Caldwell of sacrilege, and begins a death chant aginst him. When Caldwell falls ill, his young wife May goes to Honolulu to hire Tom Lopaka to investigate the cause of his sickness. Lopaka and Kim travel to the Big Island, where they meet foreman Jim Symington, who seems very friendly with May Caldwell. They also encounter Dr Abner Goode, a former ship's doctor of questionable ability.

As Caldwell sickens more, Lopaka tries to convince Lanakila to stop his death chant, to no avail. Someone cuts the telephone line, someone else throws a cleaver at Lopaka, Kim chases after Suke Yamato, Symington seems to be having an affair with May, who is accused by Lopaka of posioning her husband, and Caldwell's out-of-control teenage daughter Pauline shows up to further muddy an already incoherent plotline. When Lopaka returns the cloak to the burial chamber, which is what Lanakila wanted, he is attacked by Lanakila. Tom defeats the kahuna, while Dr Elliot from Honolulu cures Ames Caldwell, who, it turns out, was being poisoned by Dr Goode, who convienently dies of a heart attack, while Jim Symington and May Caldwell are revealed as siblings.

Musical interlude

All the Warner Brothers detective shows of the late fifties and early sixties had one or more musical interludes written into the teleplay. For this episode, Connie Stevens sang "Think Something Simple" with the Shell Bar band accompanying her, while Poncie Ponce sang "My Heart Is Thine Forever" in English and Hawaiian.

Episode notes

As with many episodes, the Shell Bar musical number for this show was filmed at a different time and edited into the storyline.
