Biography
Early life and education
Born in 1988 into a family of professional musicians, Jacob studied at the
Yehudi Menuhin School in London before moving to Paris to continue his musical education with Roland Pidoux, and at theÉcole Normale de Musique de Paris with Genevieve Teulières, where he became the youngest cellist ever to receive the Concert Diploma of the École Normale de Musique de Paris at the “unanimous decision and with the congratulations of the jury”.Jacob was invited in 2008 to study with
János Starker in the USA, supported by the Leopold Mozart Foundation, and currently receives guidance from Professor Julius Berger at the Leopold Mozart Center in Augsburg, Germany.Career
His wide repertoire includes nearly all the major cello works (Haydn, Dvorak, Bach, Beethoven, Prokofiev) and several lesser known works (Krasa, Lidner, Mullenbach, Chausson), including his own transcriptions for cello (Chausson, Kreisler, Lutoslawski). Always keen to discover new works for his instrument, he has worked with composers
Sofia Gubaidulina andFranghiz Ali-Zadeh , and made world premieres at the Salzburg and Gex Festivals.A keen chamber musician, Jacob founded with his sister and father the Shaw String Trio, and plays with the cello ensemble Cello Passionato. Both groups are in demand all over the world. He is often asked to perform alongside world renowned artists, such as Jeremy Menuhin, Pierre-Henri Xuereb, Chantal Stigliani, Dora Schwarzberg,
