Lisburn City and Castlereagh District Council is a proposed Northern Irish local government district. Under the latest decision by the Review of Public Administration the district will be created by merging Lisburn City Council and Castlereagh Borough Council, though with the transfer of "the localities of Gilnahirk, Tullycarnet, Braniel, Castlereagh, Merok, Cregagh, Wynchurch, Glencregagh and Belvoir, Collin Glen, Poleglass, Lagmore, Twinbrook, Kilwee and Dunmurry" to Belfast City Council.
The new district would take in many of the outer suburbs of Belfast, and would have an electorate of 83,369.[cite web | title=Provisional Recommendations of the Local Government Boundaries Commissioner for Northern Ireland| work=LGBC | url=http://www.lgbc-ni.org/index/provisional_recommendations.htm | accessdate=2008-09-26] The name of the new District was recommended on September 17. The first election for the new district was due to take place in May 2009, but on April 25, 2008, Shaun Woodward, Secretary of State for Northern Ireland announced that the scheduled 2009 district council elections were to be postponed until 2011.
